Be Open to Connecting with Spirit

It's true. For the most part you've got to be a believer in order to connect. If you don't believe it's possible that God and the universe are on your side, it makes it a lot harder for you to receive. Spirit loves to connect with us all day long in the most beautiful and often subtle ways. Our angels and ancestors are constantly dropping hints that we are loved and held. Many times it's the perfect song on the radio, seeing angel numbers, feeling chills, finding feathers, discovering coins, noticing an spirit animal, feeling the wind on your face, and many other cool everyday signs.
Sometimes when we're not feeling connected, the angels will give us a huge sign. It's still up to us to notice it though. You can have a bald eagle swoop in front of your car, but if you don't notice it as a sacred act, its message is just going to pass right by you. You might even brush it off as a coincidence. Once you're a true believer, you'll realize there's no such thing as coincidence.
Connecting to Spirit is a two-way street, just like all relationships. We must give and receive. Because of the law of consent, we must ask in order to take. Ask your angels for help. Ask your ancestors to guide you. They are there holding you, loving you and waiting for you to invite them into your life even more. The veil to Spirit becomes a little thinner during the end of the harvest season. The leaves begin to fall. The sun begins to fade earlier and the Earth becomes more quiet. It's at this time that we are able to tune in and notice a little bit more. You are never alone. You are always held and loved by your angels and ancestors. Be open to receiving the signs.

Asking Spirit for a Sign

When we’re discussing connecting with “Spirit” we are grouping a variety of energies into one all-encompassing word or term. Spirit is comprised of our guides, angels, ancestors, animal totems, nature, god/desses and the cosmos. There could be more depending on your specific beliefs, however I think it’s important to break things down when we’re discussing opening the lines of communication. This is one of the very first things I learned when my intuitive development journey began, and I started learning how to actively connect and ask for signs. One of the most important things I learned was how to make the connection easier. I learned that it’s easier for Spirit to manipulate and communicate through nature, music, with coins/metal and scents. The easier we make our request, especially when we’re first learning and opening up, the easier it will be for both sides. Remember everything is energy and everything is vibration. I also learned that it’s important to be specific, to give Spirit a deadline and to document the experience. Here’s a very simple method of asking for a sign that works for me every time. Try it yourself, see what happens and if you’re open to it, please share with us in the comments!
Take a deep breath and quiet your mind as much as possible.
Think to yourself with whom you’d like to connect.
Say aloud or to yourself the name of the Spirit (i.e. Guardian Angel, Mom, Spirit Guide).
Say aloud or to yourself what sign you would like to receive; this is where specificity is important!
Ask for something uncommon, like a flower that’s not in season, an animal you wouldn’t normally see in your area, a specific coin like a heads-up quarter or a specific song that you wouldn’t normally hear in your day-to-day.
Give Spirit a deadline. Ask for whatever sign you’ve requested to be shown to you within 3 days, for example.
Be open! Your sign may be shown to you in an unexpected way. If you request a blue rose, it may come in the form of an unanticipated greeting card you receive with blue roses all over it, or if you ask for a specific song, it may come in the form of someone around you singing or humming the tune rather than hearing it on the radio. Sometimes Spirit is so thrilled with your request, you may receive your sign multiple times within your designated time frame.
If it doesn’t come on your first try, don’t get discouraged and don’t give up! This can be experiential at first, so keep trying and remember to document the process.
